Delhi Cab Driver Arrested for Abduction, Rape and Murder of 10-Year-Old Girl

A 10-year-old girl was abducted from a pavement in South Delhi on Monday night, raped and murdered by a cab driver. The incident occurred while the girl was sleeping alongside her parents and three siblings.

According to police, the accused, identified as Bablu, was an app-based cab driver. He was reportedly intoxicated when he noticed the girl sleeping and lifted her into his vehicle. The girl's father reportedly chased the car after hearing his daughter's screams, but was unable to catch it.

The father immediately alerted the police control room, leading to a four-hour search operation using CCTV footage and vehicle tracking. Initially, the car's registration number was unclear in footage, but police analyzed the vehicle's route and sought trip data from ride-hailing apps.

Police tracked the accused to the Vikaspuri area in West Delhi using GPS and mobile location data. During interrogation, Bablu confessed to taking the girl to a secluded area on the Gurugram-Faridabad Road, where he raped and strangled her with a scarf before leaving the body.

After the crime, Bablu continued his routine and picked up a passenger from Gurugram to Vikaspuri, showing no unusual behaviour. He was arrested in the morning.

Police sources said that Bablu has a previous criminal record in Bihar, including five cases of assault and fighting. He is married and has children. During a police-led visit to the crime scene on Tuesday, the accused attempted to escape and was shot in the leg, sustaining an injury.

Police are expected to issue notices to app-based taxi providers, questioning how an individual with a criminal background was permitted to drive for their platform.

This case has drawn attention to safety concerns for vulnerable populations, particularly children, and the screening processes used by ride-hailing services.
