Congress President Kharge Rebukes Workers for Factional Slogans at Karnataka Event
Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge on Sunday admonished party workers in Karnataka who chanted “DK, DK” during an event marking the transition of the state party chief role from Chief Minister D K Shivakumar to B K Hariprasad.
The slogans erupted after Kharge mentioned the leadership change in which Shivakumar succeeded Siddaramaiah as chief minister and relinquished the post of state Congress president.
“Sit quietly,” Kharge said firmly, while AICC general secretary in charge of Karnataka Randeep Singh Surjewala and Shivakumar gestured for supporters to stop the chants.
Kharge, referring to the sloganeering workers as “useless fellows,” stated, “This is a meeting of the Congress party. It is not a meeting about one person… One group says something, another group chants something else. Why have the others come? To sweep the floors here?”
