Congress MP accuses BJP of 'undemocratic' tactics, misuse of probe agencies
Dr. Mallu Ravi, a Lok Sabha MP from Telangana and chairman of the Telangana Congress Disciplinary Committee, launched a sharp attack on the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Saturday at Gandhi Bhavan in Hyderabad. He accused the party of undermining democratic institutions and misusing central investigative agencies for political gains.
Dr. Ravi claimed that the BJP came to power in West Bengal through "undemocratic means" and that the Enforcement Directorate (ED) and the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) are being deployed against political opponents. His comments reflect a broader concern raised by several opposition parties, which have frequently accused the central government of using federal agencies to target rivals. He drew a contrast between the two, saying the Gen Z protesters were exercising their rights within constitutional limits, unlike Naxalites. The government has defended the actions of police in maintaining law and order.
Dr. Ravi also criticised the Union government, pointing out that the Union Home Minister was absent from Parliament during important proceedings. He did not elaborate on the specific session or agenda item. On the political situation in Telangana, Dr. Ravi said the BJP has declared its intention to make Telangana its next target after West Bengal. However, he expressed confidence that the BJP's prospects are weak, asserting that the party may not even finish third in the upcoming Assembly elections. He reiterated that the Congress would regain power in the state with a decisive mandate, citing public support for the party's policies.
He argued that comparisons between Telangana and West Bengal are misplaced due to the fundamentally different political and social realities of the two states.
