CM Fadnavis Orders SIT, Special Audit into Health Scheme Irregularities
Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Friday chaired a review meeting of the Integrated Ayushman Bharat – Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana and the Mahatma Jyotirao Phule Jan Arogya Yojana at Vidhan Bhavan in Mumbai. He emphasised that the government's highest priority remains quality and transparent healthcare for the poor and needy.
During the meeting, Fadnavis announced that an inquiry is underway into alleged irregularities under the Mahatma Jyotirao Phule Jan Arogya Yojana in Nashik district. He also constituted a Special Investigation Team (SIT) headed by Nashik Divisional Commissioner Praveen Gedam, comprising experts from various departments, to ensure a thorough investigation.
An inspection by the State Health Assurance Society for the period 2024-2026 identified nearly 16,000 suspected claims and surgeries, including around 9,500 from the Nashik district. Five hospitals in Nashik have already had their empanelment cancelled in connection with the case.
The SIT will examine the irregularities and recommend further action. The state government has also ordered a special audit to scrutinise the claims and prevent future misuse of the scheme.
