CJP spokesperson alleges privacy breach after YouTubers film inside Delhi residence

Saurav Das, chief spokesperson of the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP), has alleged that a group of YouTubers and media persons entered his residence in Delhi and filmed its interior without his consent. In a statement on social media platform X on Wednesday, Mr. Das described the act as “a serious invasion of privacy” and a security threat to him and his family.

Mr. Das is currently in Maharashtra to attend a two-day meeting of the group Citizens for Justice and Peace. He said that on Wednesday morning, around 15 to 20 people gathered outside his residence, with some camping there since the previous night. He claimed that some of them managed to enter the house and record videos, which he said could be misused by “anti-social elements”.

“It’s not just an invasion of my privacy but also a grave security threat to me and my family,” Mr. Das wrote. He added that if any untoward incident occurred at his residence because of these videos, the YouTubers and those allegedly coordinating them would be “directly responsible”.

The Delhi Police has responded to the complaint. An officer from the South district police, speaking on condition of anonymity, said that security personnel had been deployed outside Mr. Das’s residence after he raised the issue on X. The officer noted that Mr. Das is not in Delhi, and has authorised someone to submit a draft complaint at the Greater Kailash police station on his behalf. “The complaint would be formally lodged, following which an investigation would be carried out,” the officer added.

The incident has drawn political reactions. Aam Aadmi Party national convener and former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, in a post on X, said that “this is the real face of Modi”. His remark was a direct reference to the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party, though no specific link between the incident and the central government or the BJP has been established.

Trinamool Congress Rajya Sabha MP Derek O’Brien said that the matter had been raised by his party in the upper house of Parliament on Wednesday afternoon. He did not provide further details.

This episode highlights the growing concern over privacy in the digital age, particularly for public figures who are increasingly targeted by unauthorised filming and online content creation. Legal experts point out that entering a private residence without consent and recording its interior may constitute a violation of the right to privacy, which is protected under Article 21 of the Indian Constitution. However, the police are yet to confirm whether any specific legal provisions will be invoked.

The CJP, a relatively small political outfit, has not issued any further official statement beyond Mr. Das’s social media posts. Attempts to reach Mr. Das for additional comment were unsuccessful at the time of writing.
