City Police Book Ten Individuals for Drug Consumption in Crackdown

The city police have registered ten cases against individuals caught consuming drugs in the past week, as part of an intensified enforcement drive under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. The operation was launched on the directions of City Police Commissioner Seemant Kumar Singh.

According to police officials, the initiative has two primary objectives: curbing drug abuse and dismantling drug supply networks. By booking drug consumers and gathering information from them, the police aim to identify and track peddlers. Similar cases have been registered at multiple police stations across the city.

A police officer, speaking on condition of anonymity, stated that the majority of cases involve marijuana consumption, while a smaller number relate to synthetic drugs. The police believe that tracking these cases will help them study the operating patterns of drug peddlers and identify areas where narcotics are distributed.

In a related development, the city police have approached the state government seeking additional drug detection kits. Officials said that greater availability of these kits at police stations would expedite preliminary testing and investigations, reducing dependence on the forensic science laboratory (FSL) teams and speeding up the registration and processing of cases.

The crackdown comes amid rising concerns over drug abuse in the city. Police have urged citizens to report any suspicious activity related to drug trafficking.
