Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi to Attend BRICS National Security Advisers Meet in New Delhi
Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi will participate in the BRICS National Security Advisers (NSAs) meeting scheduled to take place in New Delhi on June 22-23, Beijing announced on Thursday (June 18, 2026).
The BRICS NSAs meeting is a high-level forum where top security officials from the bloc's 11 member states convene to discuss key security challenges. According to Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian, Mr. Wang will attend upon invitation and exchange views on the current international security situation and major international and regional issues.
Mr. Wang, who also serves as a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China and Director of the Office of the Central Foreign Affairs Commission, is expected to discuss joint responses to both traditional and non-traditional security threats, as well as preparations for the BRICS Summit scheduled to be held in India in September.
Lin Jian emphasised that amid a transforming and volatile world, BRICS countries are committed to safeguarding peace, promoting development, and practising multilateralism. China looks forward to enhancing coordination with BRICS members to strengthen political and security cooperation.
The meeting comes against a backdrop of heightened geopolitical tensions in several regions. Notably, Mr. Wang is also Beijing's Special Representative on the India-China border issue, and according to official sources, he is expected to meet Indian National Security Adviser Ajit Doval bilaterally during his visit.
India currently holds the rotating presidency of BRICS. The member states are Brazil, China, Egypt, Ethiopia, India, Indonesia, Iran, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, and the United Arab Emirates. The previous NSAs meeting was hosted by Brazil in Brasilia last year.
