Chhattisgarh Transfers Yoga to Medical Education for Institutional Growth
Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai announced on Sunday that the state government has approved a proposal to shift the subject of yoga from the Social Welfare Department to the Department of Medical Education to promote its institutional development.
Speaking at a state-level mass yoga programme held at the PG College Ground in Ambikapur, Surguja district, on the occasion of the 12th International Yoga Day, Sai said that yoga is not merely a form of physical exercise but a way of life. He asserted that his government is committed to the wider expansion and institutional development of yoga.
“Yoga is an important component of the Ayush system. This decision will give new direction and momentum to yoga education, training, research and public awareness activities,” the Chief Minister said.
The event saw participation from government officials, yoga instructors, and citizens from across the region. The Chief Minister also performed yoga as part of the programme.
