Chennai Vaccinates Over 5 Lakh Children in Polio Drive, 91% Coverage Achieved

Chennai: The Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) on Sunday administered polio vaccines to 5,06,426 children, achieving 91 per cent coverage under the Intensified Pulse Polio Immunization Drive, officials said.

The drive, conducted by healthcare workers, volunteers, and supporting departments across all 15 zones, targeted a total of 5,56,877 children in the 0-5 age group. The majority were vaccinated at fixed booths, while others received the vaccine at transit points, through mobile teams, and via house-to-house visits.

Officials stated that the remaining 50,451 children who could not be vaccinated on Sunday will be covered in upcoming mop-up rounds to ensure full coverage. The campaign aims to maintain India's polio-free status.
