Centre raises disaster aid for FCV tobacco growers to ₹75,000
The Union government has increased the financial assistance provided to Flue-Cured Virginia (FCV) tobacco growers affected by natural calamities, raising the grant and interest-free loan from ₹50,000 to ₹75,000. The decision, implemented through the Tobacco Board, follows representations made by Mysuru-Kodagu MP Yaduveer Krishnadatta Chamaraja Wadiyar.
According to a statement from the MP’s office, the Tobacco Board has also enhanced financial assistance under other categories in line with revised guidelines. The revised package is intended to provide timely relief to growers who suffered crop losses due to natural disasters and help them restore their livelihoods.
Mr. Wadiyar had urged the Union Ministry of Commerce and Industry and the Tobacco Board to increase the aid. Welcoming the decision, he thanked the Ministry and the Board for responding positively. The enhanced assistance, he said, would provide much-needed support to affected tobacco farmers.
The MP also reiterated his demand for a fair and remunerative support price for FCV tobacco growers in Karnataka. He noted that he had written to Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal seeking parity with the support extended to growers in Andhra Pradesh. He urged the Centre to ensure a just price for Karnataka’s growers.
Mr. Wadiyar appealed to all eligible FCV tobacco growers in Mysuru and Kodagu districts to approach Tobacco Board offices and avail themselves of the benefits under the revised scheme. He reaffirmed his commitment to pursuing measures that safeguard the interests and livelihoods of farmers.
