CBI Chargesheets Six More in Mahadev App Case, Terms It Major Illegal Betting Syndicate

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has filed a chargesheet against six additional accused in a case linked to the Mahadev betting app, which the agency has described as 'one of the largest illegal betting syndicates unearthed in the country.' The chargesheet, submitted before a CBI court, also includes fresh evidence against the alleged masterminds, Saurabh Chandrakar and Ravi Uppal, and other previously chargesheeted individuals.

According to the CBI, the promoters and several associates of Mahadev App are believed to have fled to West Asian countries, from where they continue to operate the network. The agency stated that the syndicate reached millions of users across India through social media platforms, functioning as a nationwide illegal betting network run from outside Indian soil.

The investigation, which began after multiple complaints, has revealed that the app facilitated online betting on various games and events, including poker, card games, and sports betting, in violation of Indian laws. The CBI has alleged that the accused generated significant illegal proceeds, which were then laundered through complex financial channels.

The fresh chargesheet brings the total number of accused in the case to 11. The agency has also attached properties linked to the accused as part of its probe. The court is expected to take cognisance of the chargesheet and set a date for further proceedings.

The Mahadev App case is part of a broader crackdown by Indian law enforcement agencies on illegal betting and gambling apps that have proliferated in recent years. Authorities have warned citizens against engaging with such platforms, which often promise high returns but expose users to financial fraud and legal consequences.
