CBI Arrests IPS Officer Deepak Gahlawat in ₹3 Crore Bribery Case
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested Indian Police Service (IPS) officer Deepak Gahlawat in connection with an alleged bribery case involving ₹3 crore, officials said on Wednesday (July 1, 2026). The arrest is linked to the agency's probe into a fake drug manufacturing racket.
According to CBI officials, Mr. Gahlawat, who was serving as a regional director in the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) at the time of the alleged offence, is accused of assuring a Puducherry-based businessman of a favourable outcome in the CBI investigation. He allegedly claimed he could use his influence over agency officials in return for the bribe.
The case stems from a CBI trap operation conducted in June, during which Delhi Police Crime Branch Inspector Pradeep Singh and an alleged middleman, Mr. Rajkumar, were arrested. The agency has also registered an FIR against Singh, Mr. Rajkumar, and businessman N. Raja in the same case.
The CBI has not yet commented on the specifics of the evidence against Mr. Gahlawat, and he is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. Further investigations are ongoing.
