Cabinet Clears ₹1,264 Crore Rail Project to Boost Karnataka-Andhra Connectivity

New Delhi, [Date]: The Union Cabinet has approved a ₹1,264 crore railway project to lay third and fourth tracks on the Ballari-Guntakal section, linking Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh. The project aims to enhance rail capacity and connectivity in the region.

Approved by the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) on Friday, the project spans approximately 46 kilometres across three districts in the two states. It is expected to directly benefit around seven lakh residents in about 99 villages.

The Ministry of Railways stated that the multi-tracking project will improve connectivity to tourism destinations such as Ballari Fort and Sri Kumara Swamy Temple, in addition to facilitating freight and passenger movement.

The project is part of the government's broader effort to augment railway infrastructure in southern India and reduce congestion on existing single and double lines.
