BJP President Nitin Nabin Begins Punjab Visit, Pledges Drug-Free State Under Double-Engine Government
BJP president Nitin Nabin on Saturday commenced a three-day visit to Punjab, his first to the state ahead of the next assembly elections, with a promise to make the state drug-free under a 'double-engine' BJP government.
Upon arrival, Nabin attended a meeting of the state core committee alongside Punjab BJP unit president Kewal Singh Dhillon. During the meeting, he stated that the party has 'a clear vision' for Punjab, with a primary focus on eliminating drug abuse.
The discussions centred on strengthening the party's organisation down to the booth level, formulating a roadmap for upcoming programmes, and reviewing the prevailing political and organisational situation in the state.
Nabin's visit comes as the BJP aims to expand its footprint in Punjab, where the party hopes to capitalise on its central welfare schemes and law-and-order agenda. The 'double-engine' government refers to the same party ruling both the state and the Centre, a term the BJP frequently uses to highlight administrative synergy.
Punjab has long struggled with a drug epidemic, and successive governments have made similar pledges. The BJP's focused campaign on this issue may resonate with voters, though concrete action will be crucial.
The visit is also seen as an effort to galvanise the party cadre and prepare for the upcoming electoral battles. Further programmes and public meetings are expected over the next two days.
