BJP plans nationwide 'Seva Pakhwada' from Sept 17 to mark Modi's 25 years in public office
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has announced plans to organise a nationwide service campaign, named 'Seva Pakhwada', from September 17 to October 2. The campaign, to be held under the banner of 'Seva Sankalp Mahotsav', is intended to mark the completion of 25 years of Prime Minister Narendra Modi in constitutional public office.
According to the party, the 15-day campaign will focus on public service and welfare activities, including sanitation drives, blood donation camps, tree plantation programmes, and health camps across the country. The initiative is being coordinated at the national level by BJP general secretary Vinod Tawde, who has been appointed as the national convener.
For effective implementation, a seven-member team will be formed in each state, comprising a minister, an organisational general secretary, and five senior leaders. These teams will coordinate the various programmes planned under the campaign.
The BJP has also outlined plans for photo and digital exhibitions showcasing the Prime Minister's 25-year political journey, with an emphasis on governance record, development initiatives, and welfare schemes. Seminars and intellectual forums are expected to be organised on themes such as good governance, development, and 'Antyodaya' – a concept focused on the upliftment of the marginalised sections of society.
In addition, the party plans to hold interactive sessions with youth and other sections of society, along with special camps to create awareness about central and state government welfare schemes and the benefits available under them.
The timeline of the campaign coincides with the completion of 25 years since Modi took oath as the Chief Minister of Gujarat on October 7, 2001. He served in that position for nearly 13 years before entering national politics. The campaign will conclude on October 2, which is also observed as the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi.
Political observers note that such campaigns are part of the party's outreach efforts ahead of significant milestones associated with its leadership. The announcement comes as the BJP seeks to highlight the Prime Minister's long tenure in public life, which began as a Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) pracharak before his formal entry into electoral politics.
No official statement has been issued by the Prime Minister's Office regarding the campaign. The details have been shared by the BJP's organisational leadership as part of its internal planning process. The party has not yet disclosed the estimated budget for the campaign or specific logistical arrangements.
The proposed dates – from September 17 to October 2 – are also significant as September 17 is observed as Vishwakarma Jayanti in many parts of India, and October 2 is a national holiday. The choice of these dates is seen as an attempt to align the campaign with existing public observances, though the party has not explicitly stated such a rationale.
The BJP's state units are expected to begin preparations shortly, with the formation of coordination teams and the identification of locations for the planned activities. The campaign is likely to be publicised through the party's extensive organisational network, including its digital and social media platforms.
