BJP Demands Evidence or Apology from Omar Abdullah on 'Operation Lotus' Allegation

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has strongly countered a recent allegation made by National Conference leader Omar Abdullah, who claimed that the BJP was attempting to destabilize the elected government in Jammu and Kashmir through what he termed 'Operation Lotus'. The BJP has demanded that Abdullah either provide concrete evidence to support his claim or issue a public apology.

In a press conference held in New Delhi, BJP spokesperson Anil Baluni stated, 'Such baseless accusations are a disservice to the democratic process. If Omar Abdullah has any proof of so-called Operation Lotus, he should present it immediately. Otherwise, he must apologise to the people of India for spreading misinformation.'

Abdullah, a former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir, had earlier alleged that the BJP was employing tactics to lure elected legislators from other parties, a practice colloquially referred to as 'Operation Lotus' — a term used in Indian politics to describe attempts to topple state governments through defections. He warned that such moves would undermine the mandate given by the people in the recent assembly elections.

The BJP has dismissed these allegations as politically motivated and lacking substance. 'We are committed to constitutional processes and respect the mandate of the people. Such unfounded claims only reveal the desperation of those who cannot accept electoral outcomes,' Baluni added.

Political analysts note that the term 'Operation Lotus' has been used by opposition parties in the past to accuse the BJP of engineering defections to gain power in states. The BJP has repeatedly denied such practices, calling them figments of the opposition's imagination.

As of now, Omar Abdullah has not responded to the BJP's demand. The exchange highlights the ongoing political tension in Jammu and Kashmir, where the newly formed government is navigating complex regional dynamics.
