BJP chief accuses Opposition of fleeing debate in Monsoon Session
Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president Nitin Nabin on Wednesday accused the Congress and other Opposition parties of avoiding parliamentary debate and disrupting the Monsoon Session, saying they were “neither serious nor earnest” about issues concerning the people.
In a post on X, Mr. Nabin said, “Parliament is the sacred temple of democracy where the direction of the country is determined through meaningful discussions on the people’s issues, but in this Monsoon Session, the irresponsible Congress fled from discussions and repeatedly shifted its goalposts, thereby tearing apart the democratic decorum and dignity of the country.”
He further claimed that the Congress had “betrayed the people of the country.” “Throughout this entire session, the conduct of Rahul Gandhi and the entire opposition exposes their anarchic mindset and anti-democratic thinking. The whole session is nearly over, yet they were not ready for a serious discussion on even a single issue,” Mr. Nabin said.
The BJP chief alleged that the Congress first demanded a discussion on youth issues, but when the government was prepared for it, the party and its allies “backed out, claiming they did not want any discussion at all.” He noted that the session was the first for many new MPs, and the Opposition “presented an utterly shameful picture” of Indian democracy before them by “creating chaos.”
Mr. Nabin accused Rahul Gandhi of bringing “disgrace” to the position of Leader of the Opposition through the repeated use of “indecent language, arrogance, flip-flopping, and irresponsible attitude.” He also said the Opposition parties were “fleeing from discussions” because they feared their “lies” would be exposed when the Union Home Minister spoke in Parliament. “Out of this very fear, the Opposition kept changing topics throughout the session and running away from discussions,” he added.
The Monsoon Session has witnessed repeated disruptions, with the government and Opposition trading accusations over the lack of parliamentary business. The Opposition parties have not yet responded to the BJP chief’s latest remarks.
