BJP announces month-long Seva Sankalp Abhiyan as Modi completes 25 years in public life
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will launch a month-long Seva Sankalp Abhiyan across the country from September 17 to October 17, party national vice president M. Nagaraj announced on Tuesday. The campaign coincides with Prime Minister Narendra Modi completing 25 years in public service, including his tenure as Gujarat Chief Minister and Prime Minister.
Addressing reporters in Udupi, Karnataka, the Rajya Sabha member outlined the campaign's objectives. "The hardships, feelings and opinions of students should be heard," he said, adding that the BJP will stand with young people. As part of the campaign, the party will provide various facilities to 25 crore students, organise drawing competitions, felicitate anganwadi workers, and have ministers interact with youths at 1,000 locations and visit universities across the country.
September 17 also marks the birthday of Prime Minister Modi, adding significance to the campaign's start date. The party has planned a series of activities to mark the occasion and the completion of his two-and-a-half decades in public life.
Mr. Nagaraj also spoke about the government's performance, asserting that the Modi administration is "without any black spots" and that it is working to bring administration and facilities to the last person in society, guided by the Antyodaya philosophy of Deen Dayal Upadhyay. These remarks reflect the party's perspective, and the Congress has not yet commented on them.
In an apparent reference to the opposition party, Mr. Nagaraj criticised the Congress for allegedly refusing to sing more than two lines of the national song Vande Mataram, despite legal provisions. He described this as showing disrespect to the song. The Congress is yet to respond to this allegation.
On state politics, Mr. Nagaraj said the BJP will not keep quiet until Minister Nagendra resigns. The party's demand for resignation has been raised in both the Legislative Assembly and the Legislative Council, and Mr. Nagaraj said the fight will now be extended to public places. He did not specify the reasons for the demand, but the issue has been a point of contention in Karnataka politics.
The event was attended by party's district president Kuthyaru Naveen Shetty, former district presidents K. Udaya Kumar Shetty, Mattaru Ratnakar Hegde, Kuiladi Suresh Nayak, and others. Later, Mr. Nagaraj visited the BJP's Dakshina Kannada district office in Mangaluru.
The Seva Sankalp campaign is part of the BJP's broader outreach strategy as it prepares for upcoming assembly elections in several states. Analysts view such initiatives as an effort to consolidate support and highlight the government's welfare measures.
