Bihar to Dismiss 3,000 Teachers for Using Fake Degrees, Recover Salaries

Following a Vigilance Bureau investigation, the Bihar government announced on Friday that it will dismiss over 3,000 school teachers who secured jobs using fake degrees and forged certificates during the recruitment period from 2006 to 2015. The government will also initiate criminal proceedings and recover salaries paid to these teachers, along with interest.

State Education Minister Mithilesh Tiwary stated, “The Bihar government will dismiss over 3,000 school teachers accused of securing jobs using fake degrees and forged educational certificates during the period 2006 to 2015.” The announcement came after a detailed probe ordered by former Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, which uncovered large-scale irregularities, including the use of fake degrees from unrecognised institutions and forged documents.

Several First Information Reports (FIRs) have been registered against the accused teachers based on the Vigilance findings. Minister Tiwary emphasised a policy of “zero tolerance” towards corruption, adding that disciplinary proceedings would follow dismissals. “The salaries and honorariums paid to them during the tenure would also be recovered along with applicable interest,” he said.

Education department officials noted that some teachers had resigned before disciplinary action could be initiated, but asserted that they too would face departmental proceedings. “No one involved in the fraudulent activities would be spared,” officials confirmed.

Separately, leaders of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) coalition partners in Bihar—BJP, JD(U), LJP (Ram Vilas), Hindustani Awam Morcha (Secular), and Rashtriya Lok Morcha—held a meeting at Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary’s residence to discuss better coordination and review government welfare works. JD(U) spokesperson Neeraj Kumar said such meetings strengthen unity among allies.
