Beed Man Held Captive in Myanmar, Forced into Cyber Crimes: Police Seek Central Agencies' Help

The Beed police investigating the case of a 24-year-old local graphic designer, who is allegedly being held captive in Myanmar for over a month and forced into committing cyber crimes, have written to the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), the National Investigation Agency (NIA), and other central agencies to intervene in the matter.

The victim, a resident of Beed in Maharashtra, had travelled to Myanmar on a tourist visa and was reportedly working there. According to the police, the man speaks to his family every day over the phone from Myanmar and has told his wife that nearly 700 Indians are kept there, including 20-25 people from Maharashtra.

Beed Superintendent of Police Navneet Kanvat said, “We have registered an FIR in the matter and have alerted central agencies about the issue of the Beed native along with others stuck there.” The FIR was lodged on June 26 against unidentified agents and individuals based on a complaint filed by the victim's wife.

The case highlights a growing trend of Indians being lured to Myanmar and other Southeast Asian countries with false job offers, only to be forced into illegal cyber activities. Authorities are working to rescue the victims and dismantle the trafficking networks.
