Bank of Baroda Data Breach: Employee Email Account Compromised, Core Systems Safe

State-owned Bank of Baroda (BoB) has confirmed a security incident that led to unauthorised access to certain data after an employee's email account was compromised. The bank stated that the breach was promptly identified and containment measures were implemented immediately.

In a statement posted on social media platform X, BoB clarified that its core banking systems were not affected and remain secure. The bank did not specify the exact data accessed but assured customers that it is conducting a forensic investigation and working with relevant authorities as per regulatory requirements.

“The Bank remains committed to maintaining the highest standards of information security and to safeguarding the trust of its customers and stakeholders,” the official statement read.

The confirmation follows social media posts alleging that hackers stole over 1 terabyte (TB) of data, including personal and corporate banking records. BoB has not verified these claims.

This incident underscores the growing cybersecurity threats faced by financial institutions. Customers are advised to monitor their accounts for any suspicious activity and report anomalies to the bank.

The investigation is ongoing, and further details are expected as the forensic probe progresses.
