Australia claim seventh Women's T20 World Cup with dominant win over England
Australia won the Women's T20 World Cup for the seventh time on Sunday, defeating England by seven wickets at Lord's. The victory extended Australia's record in finals and ended England's unbeaten run in World Cup matches on home soil.
Chasing England's total of 150 for four in 20 overs, Australia reached 153 for three in 17.1 overs. Beth Mooney anchored the chase with an unbeaten 64 off 49 balls, while Phoebe Litchfield contributed a brisk 48 off 35 balls. The pair added 100 runs for the second wicket off 67 balls, putting Australia firmly in control.
Earlier, England captain Nat Sciver-Brunt top-scored with an unbeaten 58, sharing a key stand of 80 runs with Freya Kemp. However, England's total proved insufficient against Australia's strong batting lineup.
Mooney, who was named Player of the Match, said she had worked on being more assertive early in her innings. Litchfield played several attacking shots, including a reverse-swept six off spinner Linsey Smith.
Australia's win also marked their dominance in women's cricket, having now won nine of their last 11 T20 internationals. England, who had won eight consecutive matches leading into the final, could not sustain their momentum.
