Anurag Kumar Returns to Delhi Police as Commissioner After Two Decades with IB

Anurag Kumar, a 1994-batch IPS officer of the AGMUT (Arunachal Pradesh, Goa, Mizoram, and Union Territories) cadre, has been appointed as the Commissioner of Delhi Police. This marks his return to the force after serving for over 20 years in the Intelligence Bureau (IB).

Kumar last served in the Delhi Police in 2005 as Deputy Commissioner of Police (North) before being deputed to the IB. He was repatriated to his parent cadre earlier this year and was posted at the IB headquarters in Delhi, where he oversaw operations related to Jammu and Kashmir.

A native of Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh, Kumar holds a Bachelor's degree in Technology. He joined the Delhi Police in September 1994 and held various positions, including Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) and Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP).

His appointment comes at a time when the national capital faces multiple security challenges. As Commissioner, Kumar will oversee law and order in Delhi, reporting to the Union Ministry of Home Affairs.
