Andhra Pradesh to receive nine lakh rural houses; 3D-printed pilot begins in Tenali
Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu and Union Rural Development Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Sunday, 4 October 2026, laid the foundation for the construction of three lakh houses across the State under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Gramin (PMAY-G) 2.0. The event was held at Burripalem in the Tenali constituency.
Addressing a public meeting later, Mr. Chouhan said the Union government would sanction another six lakh houses for Andhra Pradesh, in addition to the three lakh already being taken up. Another three lakh houses would be sanctioned by the time the ongoing construction was completed, and an additional three lakh houses would also be allocated to the State, he said.
Mr. Naidu said the additional three lakh houses were expected next year, which would take the total allocation to nine lakh. He said the Centre had initially sanctioned 75,000 houses to Andhra Pradesh under the regular quota, and that three lakh houses were sanctioned following a special request made by the State government. Mr. Chouhan said the Union government would extend full support to the development of Andhra Pradesh.
Mr. Naidu also said the State government aimed to achieve 100% coverage under the housing programme by 2029.
PMAY-G is a centrally sponsored scheme under which financial assistance is provided to eligible rural households for building pucca houses, with the cost shared between the Union and State governments.
3D-printed houses pilot
The two leaders also launched a pilot project for government-led 3D concrete-printed houses, described as the first such initiative in the country. A total of 177 houses will be constructed using 3D concrete printing technology at Burripalem and Obulanayudupalem under the pilot.
Mr. Naidu said houses built with the technology were expected to maintain indoor temperatures about eight degrees Celsius lower than the outside temperature. If the pilot project proved successful, the government would take up the construction of 5,000 houses using the technology and seek to make Andhra Pradesh a model for 3D-technology-based housing, he added.
Allegations over the previous tenure
Mr. Naidu alleged that the housing programme had suffered during the previous government between 2019 and 2024, claiming that six lakh houses meant for the poor had been cancelled and that irregularities had affected its implementation. He also alleged that house sites had been allotted at unsuitable locations, including tanks and hillocks, forcing nearly four lakh beneficiaries to return their sites.
Mr. Chouhan made a similar allegation, saying the previous government had not paid its share and had thereby affected the housing prospects of the State's poor. The allegations were made by the two leaders at the public meeting and could not be independently verified.
Mr. Naidu said the coalition government was committed to ensuring that welfare and development reached all sections of society. Under the Pattabhishekam initiative, long-pending land issues had been resolved and house sites distributed to eligible poor families, he said. House sites valued at ₹52,000 crore had been provided in Visakhapatnam, Vijayawada, Mangalagiri and other parts of the State, he added.
Referring to Burripalem, Mr. Naidu noted that the village was associated with the late actor Krishna, and that Union Minister of State for Communications and Rural Development Pemmasani Chandrasekhar was also from the region.
Praising Mr. Naidu, Mr. Chouhan said the State was emerging as a leading State in the country under his leadership, and described him as a visionary and dynamic leader. "Under Mr. Chandrababu Naidu's leadership, Andhra Pradesh has become a shining, advanced and achieving State," he said.
