Andhra Pradesh to build permanent schools for 200 tribal-area institutions within a year, says Minister Lokesh

Andhra Pradesh's Information Technology and Human Resources Development Minister, Nara Lokesh, announced on Friday that 200 government schools currently operating in thatched huts and temporary sheds in the state's tribal regions will receive permanent buildings within the next year.

Speaking at the Fourth Mega Parent-Teacher Meeting held at the Zilla Parishad High School and Junior College in Polavaram district, Lokesh stated that approximately 1.10 lakh students have transferred from private schools to government schools over the past two years.

The Minister highlighted the success of the Learning Excellence in Andhra Pradesh (LEAP) programme, and announced that a LEAP school would be established in every Assembly constituency. Currently, only one LEAP school is operational, located in Nidamarru under the Mangalagiri constituency.

Lokesh also urged students to stay away from drugs, warning that substance abuse could damage their careers and lives. He noted that the state government has decided to remove photographs of political leaders from textbooks to prevent politicisation of education. In their place, value-based lessons have been incorporated into the government curriculum.

The Education Minister called on teachers to maintain the academic standards that led to strong results in the Secondary School Certificate (SSC) and Intermediate examinations in the previous academic year.
