Andhra Pradesh proposes mandatory registration for private AYUSH facilities
The Andhra Pradesh government has released draft regulations that will make registration mandatory for all private hospitals, diagnostic centres, and clinics offering AYUSH services in the state. The move covers Ayurveda, Homoeopathy, Unani, Siddha, and Yoga & Naturopathy establishments.
According to a release from the Department of Health, Medical and Family Welfare, the draft regulations follow an amendment to the Andhra Pradesh Private Medical Care Establishments Act, 2002. The Act previously applied only to private allopathic medical establishments. A gazette notification issued on April 10, 2026, brought AYUSH medical systems under the ambit of this Act (Act No. 18/2026).
To implement the change, the department has prepared draft rules titled 'Andhra Pradesh AYUSH Private Medical Care Establishments (Registration and Regulation) Rules-2026'. Officials said similar regulations in force in neighbouring states were studied before drafting the new rules.
The regulations classify AYUSH establishments into seven categories based on bed strength and services, ranging from single-doctor clinics to hospitals with more than 200 beds. Every facility must apply through the Clinical Establishment online portal. Upon application, a provisional registration certificate valid for 90 days is issued. Within ten days of receiving an application, medical experts will inspect the facility.
Permanent registration, valid for five years, will be granted only after the establishment meets prescribed standards relating to infrastructure, equipment, staffing, sanitation, biomedical waste management, pharmacy, laboratories, and patient records.
The draft rules also prescribe penalties for violations. Establishments that fail to rectify deficiencies within the stipulated time may face fines, suspension, or cancellation of registration. In addition, hospitals and clinics must display treatment charges, available services, doctors' names, and registration numbers in both Telugu and English.
Registration fees have been proposed at ₹3,000 for single-doctor clinics and up to ₹50,000 for hospitals with more than 200 beds.
The government has invited suggestions from the public, medical professionals, and experts before finalising the rules. The draft is available on ayush.ap.gov.in, and feedback can be sent to commr-apayush@ap.gov.in within the next two weeks.
