Andhra Pradesh allocates ₹32 crore to upgrade healthcare in Rayachoti
The Andhra Pradesh government has sanctioned ₹32 crore for strengthening healthcare infrastructure in the Rayachoti Assembly constituency in Annamayya district. The allocation, announced on Friday, July 31, 2026, covers critical care services, rural health centres, and hospital development works.
According to a press release, Minister of Transport, Sports, and Youth Services Mandipalle Ramprasad Reddy said the major portion of the funds, ₹23.75 crore, will be used to construct a 50-bed Critical Care Block attached to the existing 100-bed Area Hospital at Rayachoti. The block will be equipped with intensive care units, advanced medical equipment, laboratory services, and specialised medical and nursing staff to provide emergency and critical care treatment.
In addition, ₹25 lakh has been allocated for renovation and repair of the Ramapuram Primary Health Centre. Another ₹30 lakh has been sanctioned for constructing a new homoeopathy building at Lakkireddipalli under the AYUSH Department, which promotes traditional and alternative medicine systems.
The minister said six Rural Health Centres in Chinnamandem, Galiveedu, Lakkireddipalli, Rayachoti, and Sambepalli mandals will receive ₹81 lakh for infrastructure development under the National Health Mission. Furthermore, three healthcare infrastructure projects worth ₹82 lakh are being taken up under the Fifteenth Finance Commission grants.
These allocations come on top of earlier approvals. The government had previously sanctioned 17 healthcare infrastructure projects worth ₹29.22 crore for the Rayachoti constituency. These include 12 Rural Health Centres, three Block Public Health Units, one Integrated Public Health Laboratory, and the Critical Care Block.
The focus on Rayachoti is part of the state government's broader effort to improve healthcare access in rural and semi-urban areas. The critical care block, once completed, is intended to reduce the need for patients to travel long distances for emergency treatment. Area hospitals like the one at Rayachoti serve as key referral centres for surrounding mandals.
The Minister's statement did not specify timelines for completion, but such projects typically require planning, tendering, and execution phases. The involvement of multiple funding sources—state budget, National Health Mission, and Finance Commission grants—reflects a coordinated approach to infrastructure development.
Healthcare infrastructure in Andhra Pradesh has been a priority for the state government, with similar allocations made in other constituencies over time. The Rayachoti projects are part of a larger push to upgrade district and sub-district hospitals, primary health centres, and community health centres across the state.
Residents of Rayachoti and nearby areas have often raised concerns about inadequate facilities for critical care, particularly in emergencies. The new 50-bed block is expected to address this gap, though its success will depend on timely execution and availability of qualified personnel.
The announcement comes amid broader health sector investments in the state, including the strengthening of the public health system under various missions. The state government has emphasised the importance of making quality healthcare affordable and accessible to all sections of society.
