Andhra Medical College Ranked 13th Nationally; 8 AP Govt Colleges in Top 150
Andhra Medical College (AMC) in Visakhapatnam has been ranked 13th among government medical colleges across India, according to the Indian Institutional Ranking Framework (IIRF). The college is the top-performing government medical institution in Andhra Pradesh and the fourth best in South India.
The rankings, released by the IIRF, placed the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Mangalagiri, second in the State and 23rd nationally. AIIMS Mangalagiri also ranked sixth among government medical colleges in the southern region.
Other government medical colleges from Andhra Pradesh that made it to the top 150 include Guntur Medical College (third in State, 50th nationally), Kurnool Medical College (fourth, 57th), Rangaraya Medical College in Kakinada (fifth, 59th), Sri Venkateswara Medical College in Tirupati (sixth, 69th), Siddhartha Medical College in Vijayawada (109th), and Government Medical College in Anantapur (127th).
Among private medical institutions, two colleges from Andhra Pradesh were placed in the top 100 nationally: Alluri Sitarama Raju Academy of Medical Sciences in Eluru and Narayana Medical College in Nellore.
In the nursing category, St. Luke’s College of Nursing in Visakhapatnam was the only institution from the State to feature in the top 100, securing the 69th position.
The rankings also covered pharmacy, physiotherapy, dental, and public health colleges. In the top 30 government pharmacy colleges, A.U. College of Pharmaceutical Sciences in Visakhapatnam, Acharya Nagarjuna University’s Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences, and Sri Padmavathi Mahila Viswa Vidyalayam secured the 25th, 26th, and 29th positions, respectively. Several private pharmacy colleges from the State also performed well.
Dr. NTR University of Health Sciences was the only government institution from Andhra Pradesh to feature in the physiotherapy rankings, securing the 10th position nationally and fourth in the South.
No institution from Andhra Pradesh appeared in the rankings of top dental and public health colleges.
The IIRF rankings are based on parameters including pedagogy, research outcomes, innovative medical infrastructure, social inclusion, future orientation, and external perception. The framework aims to provide an objective assessment of institutions across the country.
