Ammonia gas leak in Chennai: 19 women still hospitalised, one on ventilator

A total of 48 persons affected in the ammonia gas leak at a seafood processing and export facility in Tiruvallur district on June 21 have been discharged after treatment. However, 19 women remain hospitalised, with one on ventilator support, 10 receiving nasal oxygen, and eight patients in stable condition, according to a health department bulletin.

The tragedy claimed the lives of 16 women from Odisha, Assam, and Jharkhand. The mortal remains of 13 victims were airlifted to Odisha, two to Assam, and one to Jharkhand.

The incident occurred at a facility in Tiruvallur, near Chennai, and has raised questions about safety protocols in industrial units. Authorities are investigating the cause of the leak.
