Amit Shah directs police chiefs to detect, deport illegal migrants at NSSC-2026
Union Home Minister Amit Shah inaugurated the two-day National Security Strategies Conference-2026 (NSSC) on Monday, August 24, 2026, directing security agencies to take strict measures against infiltration and to detect and deport illegal migrants.
In his inaugural address, Mr. Shah asked police chiefs and heads of security agencies to adopt a comprehensive approach in tackling national security challenges. He specifically mentioned the use of artificial intelligence-based analysis of information available on Multi Agency Centres (MAC) platforms to create standard operating procedures (SOPs) for countering various security threats.
The conference, held in a hybrid format, saw participation from more than 850 attendees across the country. Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan, Intelligence Bureau Director Mahesh Dixit, and heads of Central Armed Police Forces attended the conference in Delhi, while Directors General of Police of States and Union Territories, young police officers at the grassroots level, and domain experts joined virtually, according to the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA).
On the first day, discussions focused on critical aspects of national security, including responses to counter-terrorism challenges, the fusion, analysis and operationalisation of intelligence through the MAC platform, the vision document on narcotics control, the detection and deportation of illegal migrants, and a policy framework to combat cybercrime and what the ministry described as proxy warfare by Pakistan.
Emphasising the need for an effective response to terrorism and radicalisation, Mr. Shah underlined the importance of training for the implementation of the MHA's PRAHAAR scheme. He also stressed expediting trials by bringing back fugitives, using trial-in-absentia provisions, and adopting a comprehensive and integrated approach while investigating cases under the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA).
The second day of the conference, scheduled for August 25, is expected to address the threat landscape from sub-aerial systems and formulate countermeasures, as well as discuss ways to secure the blue economy, the MHA said.
The NSSC has been organised annually since 2021 in a hybrid format, following the directions of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The conference aims to find solutions to major national security challenges by leveraging the extensive experience of officers working at the grassroots level in collaboration with domain experts.
