Amarnath and Vaishno Devi Yatras Suspended from July 19 Due to Severe Weather Warning
Authorities in Jammu and Kashmir have announced the temporary suspension of the Amarnath and Shri Mata Vaishno Devi pilgrimages effective July 19, citing a severe weather forecast from the India Meteorological Department (IMD). The decision, described as a precautionary measure, aims to ensure the safety and well-being of pilgrims.
In a statement, Kashmir Divisional Commissioner Anshul Garg confirmed that the Shri Amarnathji Yatra will be halted from both the Pahalgam and Baltal routes starting July 19. No onward movement will be permitted from the Baltal and Nunwan/Chandanwari base camps in the Kashmir region. Additionally, no pilgrim convoys will depart from the Bhagwati Nagar Yatri Niwas in Jammu.
The IMD has forecast moderate to widespread rainfall across Jammu and Kashmir from July 19 to 23. Officials stated that the suspension will remain in effect until a comprehensive assessment of weather conditions and route safety is completed. Updates on the resumption of the yatra will be issued in due course.
So far, over 3.76 lakh pilgrims have paid obeisance at the holy cave shrine during the ongoing Shri Amarnathji Yatra. The Vaishno Devi Yatra is also suspended, with an official spokesperson confirming the move as a precaution against unfavourable weather. Devotees are advised to cooperate with authorities and avoid undertaking the pilgrimage until further orders.
Pilgrims are urged to stay updated through official communication channels for the latest information regarding the resumption of both yatras.
