AIIMS Delhi restricts social media use: No reels, logos, or patient info without approval

The All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Delhi, has released a new social media policy that restricts how students, resident doctors, faculty, and staff may use the institute's name and online platforms.

Issued by the Registrar's office on June 22, the policy prohibits the use of AIIMS's name in Instagram reels and Facebook videos without prior permission. It also bans any unauthorised use of the institute's logo or emblem.

The policy further forbids sharing patient information on social media, a move aimed at protecting patient privacy and complying with medical ethics. Additionally, the policy warns against posting content that could harm the institution's reputation.

The guidelines come as healthcare professionals and students increasingly use social media for communication and outreach. The institute stated that the policy is intended to ensure responsible use of digital platforms by its community.

AIIMS Delhi is a premier medical institution in India, and its new policy reflects growing concerns over professional conduct on social media. Similar policies have been adopted by other major hospitals and universities globally.
