AIADMK Pressures Tamil Nadu CM to Warn Congress Over Cauvery Water Release

AIADMK General Secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami has questioned whether Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay is prepared to threaten the removal of Congress ministers from the state cabinet if Karnataka fails to release Tamil Nadu's rightful share of Cauvery water.

Palaniswami condemned a statement by Karnataka Water Resources Minister Ramalinga Reddy, who claimed that the Cauvery Water Management Authority had not ordered water release and that Tamil Nadu had not requested its share. Palaniswami called this claim "an absolute lie," stating that the authority's duty is to monitor Karnataka's implementation of the Cauvery Tribunal's orders.

He demanded that Karnataka immediately implement the orders of the Cauvery Water Disputes Tribunal and the Supreme Court. Separately, Tamil Nadu Congress Committee President Manickam Tagore also urged Karnataka to release water, warning that refusal amounts to contempt of the Supreme Court's order.

The Cauvery water dispute, a decades-old conflict between Tamil Nadu and Karnataka over sharing of river waters, remains a politically sensitive issue in both states.
