7 Dead, 22 Injured as Bus Crashes and Catches Fire on Delhi-Mumbai Expressway
Seven people died and 22 others were injured after a sleeper bus collided with a trailer truck and caught fire on the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway near Dausa in Rajasthan. The accident occurred around 2:30 am on Wednesday.
According to officials, the bus was traveling from Rishikesh to Indore, Madhya Pradesh, at high speed when it hit the trailer. Both vehicles were engulfed in flames. Five passengers died from burn injuries, while two suffered fatal head injuries.
Eyewitnesses reported that most victims were asleep at the time of the crash. Firefighters and rescue teams extinguished the blaze and pulled survivors from the wreckage.
The injured, including women and children, were admitted to Dausa District Hospital for treatment.
Police said they suspect the bus driver may have fallen asleep, and excessive speed is also being investigated as a possible cause. Locals alleged that rescue teams arrived late, delaying assistance by nearly an hour. They also claimed that cigarette packets stored in the bus's luggage compartment contributed to the rapid spread of the fire.
The local administration is investigating the incident and identifying the deceased and injured.
