25 Dead in Sri Lanka Prison Clashes; 13 Killed in Maharashtra Rains
The death toll from violent unrest at a prison in Sri Lanka's western coastal town of Negombo has risen to 25, authorities said on Monday (July 6, 2026). A clash erupted on Sunday (July 5, 2026) between two rival groups of inmates in the overcrowded facility. Rioting inmates seized prison guns, leading to further violence on Monday.
In Maharashtra, at least 13 people have been killed in rain-related incidents over the past three to four days, Disaster Management Minister Girish Mahajan said. Mumbai and neighbouring Palghar and Raigad districts have experienced record-breaking rainfall.
