20 tribal ashram school students hospitalised after food poisoning in Andhra's Chintoor
At least 20 students from the Government Tribal Welfare Ashram School in Somulagudem were hospitalised on Sunday after suspected food poisoning, officials said. The incident occurred in the Chintoor Agency area of Polavaram district, Andhra Pradesh.
The dal prepared for lunch was reportedly served to the students for both lunch and dinner, leading to health complications a few hours after consumption, according to Integrated Tribal Development Agency Project Officer Subham Nokwal.
“We have admitted 20 girls to the government hospital in Chintoor. They are recovering and responding to treatment,” Mr. Nokwal said. He added that the ashram school warden has been suspended and an inquiry into the incident has been ordered. A medical camp has also been set up on the school campus.
The students are currently under medical supervision, and authorities are monitoring the situation. Further investigation will determine if any lapses in food safety procedures contributed to the incident.
