17-year-old NEET aspirant dies after fall in Ahmedabad

A 17-year-old boy preparing for the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test Undergraduate (NEET-UG) re-examination died after falling from a building in Ahmedabad's Tragad area on Thursday morning, police said.

The boy, a minor, lived with his mother and 13-year-old brother in Ahmedabad. His father, an advocate, resides and practises in Surat, according to police.

Assistant Commissioner of Police D V Rana of L Division stated that the boy suffered severe injuries from the fall. A resident of the society saw the boy lying under the building around 12:45 am and called an ambulance. Paramedics declared him dead on arrival.

Police have registered a case and are investigating the circumstances. The boy's maternal uncle told police that the student had expected to score well in the cancelled NEET exam based on his self-assessment.

The National Testing Agency (NTA) had cancelled the NEET-UG exam for some candidates due to alleged irregularities and scheduled a retest. The boy was preparing for this re-examination.

Authorities urge anyone experiencing distress to seek help from mental health professionals or helplines.

West Bengal challenges Delhi HC order to release 1993 Bowbazar blast convict in Supreme Court

The West Bengal government has moved the Supreme Court against a Delhi High Court order directing the premature release of a convict in the 1993 Bowbazar blast case that killed 69 people. The state argues the High Court erred in overriding the Sentence Review Board's repeated rejections of remission, while the High Court cited a reformative approach after the convict served over 33 years.
