10 Killed in Russian and Ukrainian Strikes as Deadly Exchanges Continue
At least 10 people were killed on Sunday in strikes by both Russian and Ukrainian forces, with Kyiv accusing Moscow of hitting a supermarket in northern Ukraine and Moscow accusing Kyiv of striking a bus stop in the occupied east.
The attacks come a day after 20 people were killed on both sides of the frontline, as the war — launched by Russia in 2022 — shows no signs of abating. Diplomatic efforts to end the conflict remain deadlocked.
Ukrainian officials said a Russian drone strike hit a supermarket in the northern city of Chernihiv, killing two people, including a 10-year-old child, and wounding 13 others. The head of the city, Dmytro Bryzhynsky, confirmed the details on social media. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy described the attack as a “deeply cynical drone strike on an ordinary supermarket.” Photographs showed smoke rising from the damaged building.
Zelenskyy also reported that Russia launched ballistic missiles at Kyiv, wounding several people, and that strikes killed one person in Zaporizhzhia and another in Kharkiv, where officials said a residential building was hit.
In Moscow-held Horlivka, Russian-installed authorities said a Ukrainian drone strike killed four people at a bus stop and wounded seven others. Another person was killed in the occupied part of the Kherson region, according to Russian sources. In Russia’s border region of Belgorod, local authorities said one person was killed by a Ukrainian drone in the village of Smorodino.
The escalation follows a Ukrainian strike on an occupied town on the Azov Sea that Moscow said killed 12 people a day earlier. U.S.-led peace talks remain stalled, and Russia continues to occupy large parts of eastern and southern Ukraine, with repeated statements of intent to seize more territory by force.
