ZEE5 Pulls Diljit Dosanjh Film 'Satluj' After Government Cites Security Concerns

The OTT platform ZEE5 has removed the film 'Satluj', starring actor-singer Diljit Dosanjh, after receiving a notice from the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (MIB). The notice cited security issues and obligations under the Information Technology Rules, 2021, sources said.

The film, which had been awaiting certification from the Central Board of Film Certification for over three years, was released uncut on ZEE5 on Friday. It was taken down on Sunday evening, just two days later.

The removal has sparked a heated debate, with political parties and the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) demanding the film's reinstatement. Diljit Dosanjh commented that he "had a feeling that something like this would happen."

'Satluj' is based on the life of Jaswant Singh Khalra, a Punjab-based human rights activist who disappeared in 1995. In 2005, four Punjab Police officers were convicted for his abduction and murder, receiving seven-year prison sentences. Two years later, the Punjab and Haryana High Court enhanced their sentences to life imprisonment.
