Worker Dies at Google Data Centre Site; CPI(M) Demands ₹50 Lakh Compensation

Visakhapatnam: A 48-year-old worker, Majji Appala Raju, died at the construction site of the upcoming Google data centre project in Tarluvada village, Anandapuram mandal, on Saturday. The Communist Party of India (Marxist) [CPI(M)] has demanded ₹50 lakh in compensation for his family.

According to CPI(M) leaders, Appala Raju collapsed while working and later succumbed. The party also alleged that police prevented CPI(M) and CITU leaders from meeting the affected families. Addressing a press conference, CPI(M) Central Committee member K. Lokanadham and district secretary M. Jaggu Naidu claimed that party leaders were detained and restrictions imposed on their visit to Tarluvada after the incident.

The CPI(M) urged the State government to compensate the bereaved family, provide educational support to the deceased worker’s children, and withdraw what they described as police repression against those supporting the affected families. The party warned of intensified protests if demands remain unresolved.

As of now, no official statement from Google or the state government has been released regarding the incident.
