West Bengal: Girl's Body Found in Pond, Mob Kills Suspect

A 12-year-old girl, missing since Saturday afternoon, was found dead in a pond in the Dhapdhapi-2 panchayat area of Baruipur, South 24 Parganas district on Sunday morning. The girl's family alleged she was raped and murdered before being dumped in the pond.

The discovery sparked violent protests. An angry mob lynched a local man suspected of involvement in the crime. Locals also blocked key roads and railway tracks, disrupting traffic and train services on the Sealdah-Namkhana line for about an hour. Road traffic remained suspended for nearly five hours as protesters sat on the streets with the girl's body.

Police intervened and announced that the government had taken note of the incident, after which the blockade was lifted. Authorities have initiated an investigation into the girl's death and the subsequent mob violence.

The incident highlights ongoing concerns about law and order in the region. The state government has urged calm and assured strict action against those responsible.
