Welcome to the Jungle Crosses Rs 100 Crore Globally, But Sees Sharp Drop on Day 4
Akshay Kumar's multi-starrer action-comedy 'Welcome to the Jungle' has crossed the Rs 100 crore mark worldwide, but the film witnessed a significant dip in collections on its first Monday. According to industry tracker Sacnilk, the movie earned Rs 8.50 crore net in India on Day 4, taking its domestic total to Rs 72.25 crore. The worldwide gross now stands at Rs 106.48 crore.
The film, directed by Ahmed Khan, opened to strong numbers over the weekend, collecting Rs 63.75 crore net in India. However, Monday saw a decline of 65.7% in daily earnings. The occupancy rate across 10,922 shows was 20.90%, with morning shows at 11.85%, afternoon at 20.46%, evening at 22.69%, and night shows at 28.62%. In key regions, Delhi-NCR recorded 24.5% occupancy over 985 shows, while Mumbai saw 21.8% across 775 shows.
'Welcome to the Jungle' faces competition from other releases such as Imtiaz Ali's 'Main Vaapas Aaunga'. Upcoming films like 'Alpha', 'Dhamaal 4', 'The Odyssey', and 'Spider-Man: Brand New Day' are also lined up for release. The film features an ensemble cast including Suniel Shetty, Disha Patani, Jacqueline Fernandez, Arshad Warsi, Jackie Shroff, Paresh Rawal, Raveena Tandon, Lara Dutta, Farida Jalal, Johny Lever, Shreyas Talpade, Tusshar Kapoor, and Rajpal Yadav, among others.
In an interview, Akshay Kumar explained what sets this installment apart: 'The earlier Welcome films were madness in a living room. This one is madness in a jungle! We’ve taken the chaos, multiplied it by ten and dropped everyone into the middle of nowhere.' He added that the film is an adventure-comedy on a bigger canvas with action sequences and mistaken identities.
Despite mixed reviews, the film managed to pass the crucial first Monday test, though with a satisfactory rather than outstanding performance. The coming days will determine its long-term box office trajectory.
