Rescue operations at the Kalladi tunnel construction site in Wayanad’s Meppadi concluded on Sunday (July 12, 2026) with the recovery of the last missing person, bringing the death toll from the devastating debris slip to eight.

The deceased was identified as Bikram Singh Rana, a project manager from Himachal Pradesh. His body was found on the sixth day of search in Zone II, an area where iron debris had accumulated after the disaster on July 7.

Officials confirmed that all missing individuals have now been accounted for. The debris slip struck near the entrance of the under-construction Wayanad twin-tunnel road project, trapping workers at the site.

After identification by relatives, Rana's body was moved to the Vythiri Taluk Hospital for postmortem examination. Following the procedure, it will be transferred to the Kozhikode Government Medical College Hospital for embalming before being repatriated to his hometown.
