Wayanad Landslip: Two Workers Rescued, Search Underway for Several Trapped

A landslip occurred on Tuesday at the Anakkampoyil–Kalladi–Meppadi twin-tunnel road construction site near the Meenakshi Bridge in Kalladi, Wayanad district. At least two workers have been rescued and rushed to a nearby hospital, while several others are believed to be trapped under debris.

The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) has been deployed on an emergency basis, and rescue operations are ongoing at the site. Local authorities, including district administration officials, are coordinating the efforts. The exact number of workers trapped is yet to be confirmed, and search teams are working to locate them.

The rescued workers are receiving medical treatment, and their condition is reported to be stable. The cause of the landslip is under investigation, though heavy rainfall in the region has been a contributing factor. The construction site is part of a road expansion project in the hilly terrain of Wayanad, which is prone to landslides during the monsoon season.

State government officials have assured all necessary assistance, and additional rescue teams are being mobilized. The district collector has urged people to avoid the area to facilitate rescue operations. Updates on the number of casualties or further rescues are awaited.

This incident highlights the risks faced by workers in infrastructure projects during extreme weather conditions. Authorities are expected to review safety protocols at similar sites across the district.
