Vizag Hospitals Go Solar: 100 kW Rooftop Projects Inaugurated to Cut Costs, Carbon Footprint

District Collector M. Abhishikth Kishore on Saturday inaugurated 100 kW rooftop solar power projects at the Government Mental Care Hospital and the Visakha Institute of Medical Sciences (VIMS) in Visakhapatnam. Each institution received a 50 kW system, part of a push to reduce energy costs and transition to clean energy.

The installations are supported by AMNS India under its Corporate Environmental Responsibility (CER) initiative. Speaking at the event, Mr Kishore praised the company for strengthening sustainable healthcare infrastructure at government hospitals.

This project is part of a broader district-wide programme by AMNS India to equip government medical facilities with renewable energy. The company previously completed rooftop solar installations at King George Hospital (KGH) with 120 kW capacity and Victoria Hospital with 80 kW capacity in 2025. An additional 50 kW installation is currently underway at RCD Hospital.

Officials said the shift to solar power will significantly lower electricity expenses for the hospitals while reducing their carbon footprint, fostering a greener healthcare environment.

The inauguration was attended by M. Ravindra Nath, Executive Director of AMNS Vizag Asset; Dr K.V. Rami Reddy, Superintendent of Government Mental Care Hospital; D.S. Varma, Head of HR & Administration at AMNS Vizag Asset; and other medical professionals, hospital staff, and government officials.
