Visakhapatnam electoral roll drive: Over 80% forms distributed in revision exercise

In a significant step towards updating the electoral roll for 2026, a special drive under the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the Electoral Roll-2026 has achieved 80.94% distribution of enumeration forms across the seven Assembly constituencies in Visakhapatnam district as of Friday.

According to official figures released by the district administration, Booth Level Officers (BLOs) have distributed 16,37,424 enumeration forms out of the total 20,23,009 to be issued to electors. Simultaneously, digitisation of completed forms has gathered momentum, with 75,427 forms uploaded, accounting for 3.73% of the total.

District Collector M. Abhishikth Kishore inspected the distribution and digitisation process at Polling Station No. 132 in Lawson’s Bay Colony under the Visakhapatnam East Assembly constituency and at polling stations in Pedagantyada. Joint Collector G. Vidyadhari also reviewed the work in Pedagantyada. Electoral Registration Officers and Assistant Electoral Registration Officers visited polling stations in Vepagunta, Akkireddipalem, Adivivaram Junction, Bukka Veedhi and Anandapuram. They directed BLOs to complete the distribution, collection and digitisation of enumeration forms within the stipulated timeframe while ensuring accuracy.

Among the Assembly constituencies, Visakhapatnam South recorded the highest distribution of enumeration forms at 86.12%, followed by Pendurthi with 84.90%, Bheemili 81.14%, Gajuwaka 79.74%, Visakhapatnam North 79.60%, Visakhapatnam East 78.74% and Visakhapatnam West 76.19%.

In digitisation, Visakhapatnam North topped the district with 5.90%, followed by Visakhapatnam West at 3.85%, Gajuwaka 3.75%, Pendurthi 3.74%, Visakhapatnam South 3.22%, Visakhapatnam East 2.94% and Bheemili 2.89%.

The revision drive is part of ongoing efforts to ensure an accurate and updated electoral roll ahead of the 2026 elections. The district administration has urged all eligible citizens to cooperate with BLOs and complete the enumeration process.

Kerala to decide on liquor tax cut only after coalition talks: Minister

Kerala Revenue Minister A.P. Anil Kumar stated that any decision on reducing taxes for low-alcohol beverages will be taken only after discussions within the ruling UDF and Congress leadership. The proposed tax cuts in the 2026 Revised Budget have drawn criticism from opposition parties and some Congress leaders who argue it could encourage alcohol consumption. Chief Minister V.D. Satheesan has indicated that the budget only sets the tax framework and broader policy will be decided after coalition consultations.
