Uttarakhand CM Dhami flags off 11 clean fuel vehicles, distributes subsidies to promote clean mobility

Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Tuesday distributed subsidies and flagged off 11 clean fuel vehicles as part of the state's efforts to boost clean mobility. The event, held in Dehradun, highlighted the government's commitment to reducing vehicular emissions and promoting sustainable transportation.

Addressing the gathering, Dhami said that the state government is taking concrete steps to encourage the use of clean fuel vehicles. He emphasised that such initiatives align with the national goal of achieving net-zero emissions by 2070. The Chief Minister also urged citizens to adopt eco-friendly modes of transport.

The 11 vehicles flagged off include electric buses and compressed natural gas (CNG)-run vehicles, which will be deployed for public transport in various cities across the state. The subsidies distributed are part of a state scheme aimed at making clean fuel vehicles more affordable for buyers.

Officials said that the initiative is expected to reduce the carbon footprint of the transport sector significantly. Uttarakhand has been striving to become a model state for sustainable development, and this move is seen as a step in that direction.

Environmentalists welcomed the move but stressed the need for adequate charging and refuelling infrastructure to support the transition. The state government has assured that such infrastructure will be developed in a phased manner.
