The order to demolish 38 out of 40 buildings of Mohammad Ali Jauhar University in Rampur, Uttar Pradesh, has been temporarily stayed by the Moradabad divisional commissioner. The university, run by a trust chaired by jailed Samajwadi Party leader Azam Khan, has been cited for alleged irregularities in land acquisition, construction, and permissions by the district municipal authority, the income tax department, and the fire department.

However, regulatory hurdles for private players often necessitate political connections for establishing institutions, leading to a reliance on patronage and occasional violations.
