Uttar Pradesh School Students Protest for Better Facilities, Police Called to Maintain Order

Hundreds of students at a government-aided school in Uttar Pradesh's Fatehpur district staged a protest on Tuesday, demanding improvements in basic infrastructure. The demonstration, which took place at Sarvodaya Inter College in Kishanpur town, drew comparisons to a recent student protest in Delhi but remained a distinct local action.

Students marched through the locality holding portraits of B.R. Ambedkar and carrying placards with messages such as 'College ki vyavastha sudharo, bacchon ka bhavishya sanwaro' (Improve the college's condition, secure the future of its students). The school administration called police personnel to maintain order, and videos showed police asking students to clear the road as the demonstrators continued.

The protest gained wider attention after being shared by Chandrashekhar Azad, Nagina MP and president of the Azad Samaj Party (Kanshi Ram), and by the Aam Aadmi Party on social media. Azad alleged that repeated representations to the school administration had failed to bring about meaningful change, and concluded his post with the slogan 'Jai Bhim! Jai Gen Alpha!'

Abhishek Sonkar, a student, alleged that midday meals had never been served in accordance with the prescribed menu. The school's principal, L.B. Singh, told The Hindu that several demands – including the installation of four fans per classroom, a water cooler, and provision of meals as per the menu – had been addressed immediately. He added that a few students from higher grades were believed to have participated in a recent protest at Delhi's Jantar Mantar.

The protest at Sarvodaya Inter College, which has nearly 1,800 students, was not part of any coordinated movement but reflected ongoing concerns about educational infrastructure in government-aided schools across the state. Authorities said the situation remained peaceful and that no untoward incidents were reported.
