Uttar Pradesh Opens New ₹200-Crore Disaster Management Headquarters in Lucknow

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath inaugurated the new headquarters building of the Uttar Pradesh State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA) in Lucknow on Sunday. The facility was constructed at a cost of over ₹200 crore.

During the ceremony, the Chief Minister launched the authority’s official website, inspected an exhibition on disaster management, and toured the premises to assess operational readiness. The new building is expected to centralise the state’s disaster response efforts and improve coordination among various agencies.

Speaking at the event, Adityanath stressed the importance of public awareness and structural preparedness in minimising losses during emergencies. “Our resolve is to make Uttar Pradesh a state that is fully prepared to deal with every disaster, where every citizen can live with the confidence that both the government and the citizen are ready to face any crisis. This should become a part of every citizen’s and the nation’s duty,” he said.

The SDMA is responsible for drafting disaster management plans, conducting training programmes, and coordinating relief operations across Uttar Pradesh. The new headquarters is equipped with modern communication systems and a dedicated control room to facilitate real-time monitoring during crises.

Officials stated that the building also houses a disaster management library and a training centre for first responders. The state government has allocated additional funds for procuring advanced equipment, including drones and early warning systems, to enhance preparedness for floods, earthquakes, and other natural disasters.

Uttar Pradesh is prone to frequent floods, particularly in the eastern and central regions, as well as earthquakes in the Himalayan foothills. The new infrastructure aims to reduce response times and improve coordination with district administrations and central agencies.

The inauguration marks a step towards strengthening disaster resilience in the state, aligning with national frameworks for disaster risk reduction. No further details on the timeline for full operationalisation were provided.
